LDS UnPlugged – ‘ The What’

What happened to make LDS UnPlugged what it is.   As I mentioned in ‘The Who’ post last week, this web blog and site comes from thoughts and ideas of making a commitment to UnPlug from media; entertainment and activities that do not necessarily uplift you as other forms of media; entertainment and/or recreation.

For example, imagine taking 15 minutes out of your normal, regular day to put your phone down, keep it down (a good idea is to silence; put on do not disturb; or even turn it completely off).   During these 15 minutes, be quiet, in solace, no distractions… It may seem like an eternity as we are always use to having our phone with us, always checking for messages, always viewing the latest notification, etc.   Try it, you’ll see what I’m talking about.   Now, this has to be done during your normal, busiest time of the day.   You will realize in a short (to you it may seem super long) how we are really connected to our phones!

Now, if you work a regular 9-5 job, you’re entitled to two 15 minute breaks; and a 30 min lunch.   If you were to do this exercise during your break (usually is opposite of what most people do), it will condition you to be in a position where you can take the LDS UnPlugged challenge:

Turn off all technology distractions for a set period of time each and every day.   During this time, interact and converse with your children.

For most of us, our children are our most precious things in our lives.   Let us, as has been told in ancient and modern day scripture, ‘behold’ them; have a ‘conversation’ with them; ‘hold’ them; ‘love’ them.   I promise, if you do this simple thing (on a daily basis) your relationship with them will grow and you will find joy and happiness in ‘being’ with them.

There you have it, this is ‘The What’ of LDS UnPlugged.
